Intermediate 1:Drafting & Sewing a Dress

Service Description

In this 10-week class, you'll learn how to draft all the patterns needed to make a dress! These patterns are the foundation of any garment, really. We will cover the bodice sloper, the skirt pattern and the sleeve pattern. You will also learn full dress construction. CURRICULUM WEEK 1: Introduction to Pattern Drafting - Overview of the course and goals - Introduction to pattern terminology - Taking accurate body measurements WEEK 2 and 3: Drafting the Bodice Sloper - Step-by-step guidance on drafting the bodice sloper with all the darts for the perfect contour. WEEK 4: Testing the Bodice Sloper - Basics of laying out and cutting fabric - Understanding the grainline and pattern placement - Transfer to test fabric - Constructing the bodice using a test fabric - Fitting and adjustments WEEK 5: Design Elements and Neckline Variations - Adding style elements to the basic bodice sloper - Dart manipulation - Exploring neckline variations - Constructing the stylized pattern using a test fabric WEEK 6: Drafting a Basic Sleeve with Length Variations - Introduction to different sleeve variations - Step-by-step guidance on drafting sleeves WEEK 7: Drafting the Skirt Pattern, Fabric Selection and Cutting - Drafting the skirt portion of the dress pattern - Connecting the bodice sloper to the skirt WEEK 8: Sewing Techniques and Dress Construction Part 1 - Step-by-step sewing instructions for constructing the final dress - Techniques for assembling bodice, sleeves, and skirt WEEK 9: Sewing Techniques and Dress Construction Part 2 - Continuation of the construction - Zipper insertion and closure methods WEEK 10: Sewing Techniques and Dress Construction Part 3 - Finishing touches: hems and closures - Final fitting and adjustments - Q&A MATERIALS NEEDED: Pattern drafting tools (rulers, pencils, paper, etc.) Sewing tools Muslin or any other inexpensive 100% cotton fabric for testing the patterns Fabric and notion for the project-to be discussed in the class. Fee covers the training, training manual and use of our sewing machines in the class. Cancellation Policy

Cancellation/Reschedule Policy: Payment validates booking. Your spot is reserved immediately after payment is made. No refunds are offered for sewing classes/camps/workshops. Cancellation received at least two weeks before class gives us the time to transfer your fees to another time slot. Cancellations received less than two weeks before class starts, (or no-shows) may result in forfeiture of fees paid if there are no available spaces for makeup classes. If for reasons beyond our control, we need to cancel a class, we will issue a refund in the manner in which you paid or you can transfer your payment to a future session of your choice. Classes are subject to change or cancellation based on low attendance.
